The French rental - real or a hoax?

There has been quite a bit of buzz lately about this new French Rent a Girlfriend site that has been passed around from one online user to the next. So much so, that over 500 women actually signed up to be RENTAL girlfriends the first day it went live, and not surprisingly over 5,000 men signed up to pay for the service. The first month brought 180,000 hits to this site.

Touted as a girlfriend rental (and NOT a protitution or escort site), http://www.loueunepetiteamie.com/ gives men in France the option of renting a date for an important event or even an hourly rate for a coffee house date.

 The man behind loue une petite amie, has owned and operated the largest rental and leasing website in France. He contends that this is a service like any other (no sex involved).  Interestingly, French law is rather vague on this whole issue (pimping is illegal, prostitution is not).

The question is...is it a hoax or not? The website's creator is now saying that it was simply a marketing ploy to create a fun classified ad site.

I'm thinking that we women need a girlfriend site as well. I read so many emails, message board updates, and tweets saying that the only friends that some people have are online. In 2011 it seems that it is much more difficult to meet new friends. Wouldn't it be fun to have a site where one could meet a wonderful new friend, in REAL life?

That's a "loue une petite amie" I can get behind (rental fees would be to cover the cost of the website...a one time fee).

Champagne Living Primer #3 - surround yourself with like minded people

One of the keys to getting what you want out of life is to surround yourself with the right people. In the social media/blogging world I've been lucky to have some wonderful mentors. People like Katja Presnal of Skimbaco, Wendy Limauge of Sweeties Sweeps, Ava - Broad "A" from The Review Broads, and others have all helped me in different ways. Having people that you can bounce ideas off of, lean on in times of need, and of course be a good friend, all influence who you are and what you will become.

On the other side - think about how YOU influence the people in your world. By living up to your full potential, you have the power to influence others.

Yes, no matter what we're talking about, being friendship, work, or family it's all about relationships. This doesn't mean that you need to friend every Tom, Dick or Harry...pick and choose wisely who you surround yourself with. The quality of people in your life will help to shape your life.

Stay away from people who are negative or complain a lot. People who try to sway you from your goals are not people that you want to be around. Look around and see exactly who it is in your life that causes you problems and put those relationships on the back  burner to focus on people who bring you happiness. They're more likely to help you along your journey.

CSN stores

Valentine's Day has come and gone without a big to-do at The Mansion. I may not have "trained" Mr. S in the fine art of gift giving, but that doesn't mean that I went without getting an absolutely GORGEOUS piece of jewelry.

I've learned (the hard way) that if I REALLY want something...I buy it for myself. The hints, notes, pictures circled in magazines and left on the refrigerator door, all seem to be invisible. His idea of a gift, is getting me some wonderful chocolates....and if I'm not home as soon as he brings them in the house, I am assured that the box will have been opened before with pieces missing (and the candy moved around to sort of look like it belongs that way).

My newest "thing" is pearls. I have a stunning pearl necklace from my wedding (many years ago), that has gotten more beautiful with age. Two months ago I purchased a simple pair of pearl stud earrings, but for Valentine's Day I wanted a ring that could be worn not only for evening, but for every day. Something casual and inexpensive. Having shopped at CSN for modern furniture, I knew that I'd be able to find something AWESOME at ONE of their over 200 stores.

I found this beauty at CSN in their jewelry store. A quick look through the pearl rings (I used the search button to narrow down my options) and I KNEW that this cute little Skyline Silver Ring with a pearl and CZ accents (no one will EVER know they're not the real thing) would be perfect.

While I was shopping anyway (ah, the wonders of department store type shopping online), I took a look at the rugs. Clem (the mini bull-terrier) had made the kitchen rug "his own" and it was looking rather ragged from dog hair, and the stray wool that was coming off due to him grabbing it and running through the mansion...rug in mouth (of course he'd shake it a little for good measure).

This black rug with a rooster matches my kitchen colors PERFECTLY and is a great size for right in front of the sink.

It wasn't easy choosing though, considering just how many rugs that CSN carries.

My order arrived within a week and I've been very happy with the quality of both of my purchases. While the CSN stores can seem a bit overwhelming (just because they have over 200 online stores), once you get down to what you REALLY want, it's very easy to shop, order and even return (if you're not satisfied with your purchase).

CSN's 200+ stores are located at csnstores.com

I received a gift certificate to facilitate this review. All opinions are strictly my own.

Champagne Living from someone who's DONE IT

I love when things fall into my lap, like this e-mail that I received on The Review Broads this morning. It's just in sync with what my "Champagne Living Primer." I'm sharing it in it's entirety. I'm thinking that Mr. Jacobsen's book might be an inspirational read.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Phineas Fogg’s goal was speed when the character in Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days attempted to circumnavigate the globe. Larry Jacobson was going more for quality when he set sail for his trip, taking more than six years to live out an adventure he dreamed of as a child.
“When I was 13, I shattered both bones in my right leg while skiing, and was laid up for more than three months in a complete hip-to-toe cast,” remembered Jacobson, author of The Boy Behind The Gate (www.larryjacobson.com), his chronicle of his 2,070 days on the open sea. “My mother tried to keep me occupied, and I read every magazine my mom would bring home – from Popular Mechanics to Boy’s Life -- as I watched my friends play outside. When I was finally free of the cast, I remember hobbling around as my brother brought home an eight-foot Styrofoam Sea Snark dinghy he had rescued from a garbage pile. Most people would have seen trash, but I saw a super yacht. We repaired it and I painted it yellow, and began dreaming that one day I’d sail around the world.”
For most people, a childhood dream that grand would have remained just that – a childhood dream. Not for Jacobson, however. He began sailing as a teenager, against the wishes of his father who would have preferred he had taken up golf instead. By the time he was in high school, he began racing sailboats competitively, and was well on his way to making his dream come true. After getting his education and owning a travel business, he saw an opening to act on his dreams when his business was sold.
“As I analyzed the money I’d get for my share of the business, I realized I might have enough money to make my dream trip happen, with just a bit left over when I got back,” he added. “In reality, I spent just about every dime I had and then some, but I can’t think of any better use for money than making your life’s dream come true. The truth is, I feel like the luckiest man alive, because I don’t have to wonder ‘what if.’ I lived my dream, and had adventure enough to last three lifetimes. My only lament is that more people don’t seize their opportunities to fulfill their dreams. If I have any mission in life right now, it’s to let people know that we all have strength deep inside to live our dreams. We just don’t know it’s there until we need it”
Jacobson’s advice for others who feel their childhood – or professional or even current -- dreams have passed them by, include:
* Write it down – There is something about writing down your life’s ambitions and even your day-to-day goals on paper that just makes them more real. After all, if you can’t articulate your dreams to yourself, how will you ever come close to making them come true?
* Overcome the Fear -- When I made my choice, I was basically leaving a good business, good friends and a good life to venture into the biggest unknown there is. The main reason why many people never get to live their dreams is because they never take the plunge. They are so tethered to their daily lives that they cannot imagine how to live beyond that framework or the identity they have created for themselves. Ignore your fear of the unknown and embrace the adventure of something new. Letting go makes everything possible. Be willing to take a risk.
* Persevere – Dig deep for strength. When we had to stay up for 36 hours and hand steer our way to Australia after losing the autopilot and nearly losing the mast, we dug deep and found strength we didn’t know we had.
“I know it sounds like an infomercial, but the truth is that if you can dream it, you can do it,” he added. “We all have to choose how we live our lives, but the sad part is so many of us never realize that the choice is ultimately ours to make. We’re not forced into anything. We choose, on one level or another. We can live our dreams, or we can just live. What choice are you going to make?”
The primer - living a passionate life
By living your life with PASSION, the outcome will be a much more rewarding life, and THAT is one of the important cornerstones of the Champagne Living style of living.
Have you ever noticed that when you really love what you're doing, that you get immense enjoyment from even the most difficult tasks?  Living your life with passion, not only for the people that you love, but your work, your community and even your home can bring an incredible sense of satisfaction.
  • Do you still have that passion?
  • What's keeping you from living your life with incredible gusto?
  • Do you take the time EVERY day to think about your dreams and goals?
If not ~
What's holding you back?
When is the LAST time that you dug into a project with incredible drive?
Remember that notebook you started last week with your dreams? Well, it's time to get passionate about those dreams.
Take out that notebook again and look at what you wrote. What items are you truly passionate about?
  • Take a look at HOW you spend most of your day.
  • What can you do to ignite some passion into your day?
  • How would you live TODAY if you knew it was your LAST day?
It's a deep sense of caring that allows us to live what we really love. Passion allows us to be creative, to take risks, and overcome the negative. Why just go through the motions when you can take that leap and create a more fulfilling life.
Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
It's cold & flu season - protect yourself
As a frequent traveler, I worry about germs. I was NEVER like this until recently, and now after getting sick on a recent trip, I'm even MORE concerned. I thought I was immune.
Now I notice the coughing and sneezing and the face that there's no way to keep armrests, handrails, etc., clean on a consistent basis. So I've joined the ranks of the hand sanitizer users. I keep a container in my car, one in my handbag, one in my carry on luggage and one on the kitchen counter. With all of this sanitizing, my skin gets DRY. Why? Because generally alcohol is used as a major ingredients.
This week I've had the opportunity to try a new Hand Sanitizer on the market called Veripur. Frankly, I wish I had brought it with me to Duluth a two weeks ago (where I caught this cold). It offers 4 hour conitnuous germ protection, so I could have put it on in the car and not had to worry again until I was on the plane. I have a 3 oz. tube, so I would have been able to bring in onboard in my little plastic baggie and protected myself AGAIN before landing.
What makes Veripur different than OTHER hand sanitizers? Well, besides the fact that it kills 99.99% of germs, it's alcohol free and actually moisturizes your skin...so no more dry skin from in an attempt to not get sick. Available in both a light fresh scent as well as unscented, Veripure is packed with vitamin E, avocado, jojoba, grape seed oils and natural extracts.
How VERIPUR™ with SafetyDerm® patented technology works:
• Deeply cleans and disinfects the skin
• Creates an invisible, undetectable shield on the surface of the skin that kills 99.9% of germs on contact and then continues to fight germs for four hours
VERIPUR™ Benefits:
• Kills 99.9% of germs upon application
• Four Hour Continuous germ protection after application
• Non-drying, alcohol free
• Contains hydrating moisturizers
• Helps prevent the spread of germs
• Tested and proven effective against 20 commonly found strains of bacteria and four viruses
• Convenient size for travel and to bring anywhere – the home, office, beach, sporting events and gym
VERIPUR™ is available exclusively at Walgreens in two sizes.
  • 3 fl. oz tube for $5.99
  • 13 fl. oz pump bottle for $10.99
I wrote this review while participating in a Mom Central Consulting blog tour on behalf of Veripur Hand Sanitizer Moisturizer. I received a Veripur product sample and a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate
Soupçon - Soup's On - Progresso
Soupçon - A suspicion; a suggestion; hence, a very small portion; a taste.
Soup's On - I'm hungry, I'm watching my weight and I want something GOOD and hearty
While my initial #31Days jumpstart is officially over, I AM continuing to keep the momentum going. I AM very serious about 2011 being OUR YEAR and I'm committed to making changes. Adding Progresso soup for lunch is not only a delicious choice, but also a low-calorie one. With hearty ingredients like pasta, beans, corn and rice, and flavor-packed vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, and peppers, Progresso Soup varieties with 100 calories or less offer a good source of fiber and a full serving of vegetables. Plus, there's nothing like a HOT bowl of soup on a COLD winter's day!
Progresso's Soup give you a LOT more than a soupçon - even if you opt to eat an ENTIRE can for lunch, you'll still be keeping your calorie count low and the flavor factor high. Yesterday I enjoyed a BIG bowl of Progresso's Light Chicken Noodle Soup (and I didn't have to slave over the stove all morning).
To help kick off a new outlook on the New Year, Progresso is excited to announce the return of the "Souper You™ Debut" contest! From now through March 16th, you and can visit Progresso on Facebook and enter for the chance to win a full makeover in New York City.
You might be one of 3 grand prize winners to win a trip for two to New York City from May 20th-22nd including roundtrip airfare, a two-night stay in an NYC hotel, a full makeover, a guided wardrobe shopping spree with a personal consultation at a New York City department store, and $1,000 in spending money.
To enter, you’ll need to do the following:
  • Check out Progresso on Facebook to learn more and enter the contest
  • Write and submit an essay (200 characters or less) telling Progresso why you love their soups that contain 100 calories or less, and why you should win a trip to NYC for a full fashion overhaul
  • In addition, please submit a photo of yourself that visually reinforces the theme of your essay
Once the 10 finalists are announced, you'll be able to visit Progresso on Facebook from 3/30 through 4/13 to vote for your favorite.
While you're at it - you can download a coupon for $1.00 off four (4) cans of Progresso Soup on Facebook as well as watch makeover videos provided by MyStyle.com and the Style Network.
You can also "Follow" Progresso on Twitter to keep up with the latest news from Progresso.
Oh, and Progresso wants to help one of Champagne Living's readers to stick with THEIR weight management and exercise program by offering up this AWESOME prize pack...
A Champagne Living Primer
I get a lot of comments here, on facebook and twitter, all telling me how "lucky" I am to be living the Champagne Life. They see me traveling around the world, spending time with interesting people, having experiences, and living without reservations. The truth is that LUCK has nothing to do with any of it. I designed my life a particular way and I am not satisfied to sit back and wait to life to come to me.
Whatever I've been able to do, I've done myself. I know that it looks like things just plop into my lap, but believe me they don't. I'm not satisfied sitting and watching as others explore, create and live, hoping and wishing that once day it might be me. NO!
The reason that I first started Champagne Living was to share my secrets. Oh yes, if you go back into the archive you'll find tips and tricks, but what about the PLAN that I use to create this life? You deserve to live the good life as much as I do. So....let's start at the beginning.
DECIDE just what it is that you want. You can't create the life you want unless you KNOW WHAT IT IS.Take out a pad and paper and write down EXACTLY what the good life means to you. Don't even think about your past (it's behind you), don't worry about money (you'll learn that it's not always money that gets you what you want), keep those negative thoughts out of your head...this is the time to think about how you want to live your life. Remember that you CHOOSE your path, and you CHOOSE how you FEEL about your life.
I keep journals. I write down what I want, how I'll get there, I include anything in my journals that support my intentions to make my life better. If you want to live a the life you've always dreamed of...first you have to figure out WHAT that means to you.
This will be the BEGINNING of your roadmap to Champagne Living.
"A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write if he is ultimately to be at peace with himself. What one can be, one must be" - Abraham Maslow
Flirting in the new age - flip me!
It's been a while since I was on the dating scene, but thinking about the stress of trying to meet someone without seeming too forward is still fresh in my memory. Is it "proper" for a woman to buy a man a drink? What do you say when you walk up to him or her for the first time? What if he/she is busy, but you've been watching and just WAITING for that opportunity?
Flip Me Cards help you break the ice and show that hottie that you're interested. It allows you to connect with that person that you met or saw in person ONLINE safely, with the possibility of starting a new relationship.
Each card has a cute flirtation on the front with a Member ID and card ID. You simply slip a "FlipMe" card into his/her hand and all they have to do is register (FREE of course) and enter your FlipMe code. The rest is up to YOU.
This is such a unique way of getting to know someone that you're interested in, because it starts OFFLINE and then goes ONLINE (much the opposite of online dating sites).
Are you in a happy relationship, but your BFF is looking? Buy her a package of FlipMe cards for Valentine's Day.
Choose from cards that say
  • I'm flirting with you.
  • I hope you don't mind getting carded
  • Consider this a wink and a smile
  • My friend wants to know if you think I'm cute
  • and MORE
It's FREE for the recipient to connect with you and your cost is under $25 for cards and a 90 day membership. FlipMe cards and membership can be purchased online at FlipMe.com
The Challenge is on - DiGiorno vs. Freschetta
I have to say that I'm not much of a pro-football fan. While I understand the game, I much prefer college or even high school football over pro. Still, Superbowl Sunday is a HUGE day around the mansion with foods set out from appetizers to pizza and more. It's a tradition, even if it's just Mr. S and I.
This year, I decided to put two frozen pizza's head to head in a game of their own to see WHICH brand had the better pizza for Superbowl Sunday.
DiGiorno Rising Crust Pizza in FOUR CHEESE VARIETY
VS.
Freschetta Naturally Rising Cheese Pizza
Using exactly the same directions (both pizza's say to cook at 400 for about 21 minutes) I pitted them in a game against each other.
See my whrrl for the ENTIRE play by play action -
More check-ins at Walmart Supercenter #3527
Powered by Whrrl
The clear winner? DiGiorno Four Cheese Rising Crust pizza beat Freschetta by a land cheeseslide. The Freschetta suffered massive injuries (burned cheese) in order to get the crust to a golden brown. DiGiorno clearly had the team with the most padding cheese and flavor.
This cheerleader is shaking her pom-poms for DiGiorno...
Yell for DiGiorno
They can't be beat
So watch out Freschetta
They'll knock you off your feet
GO TEAM!
I received compensation from Collective Bias to facilitate this #digiornogt post. All opinions are strictly my own.
No more running out for smoothies - Yoplait Smoothies
There is a smoothie chain approximately 3 miles from "the mansion". Suffice to say that the owner and employees know me by name as well as by drink, I'm in there so often. I have simple tastes. I like strawberry/banana smoothies (although I often add whey to the mix for some protein). The smoothies cost me about $5, and if Mr. S. wants one too (of course he always does) it's double that.
In the past I had tried to make them at home. I did OKAY, but never got the same consistency as the smoothie shop.
Last week I bought the new Yoplait Smoothies. I found them in the frozen fruit section of the grocery store. They were SO easy to make and so FRESH tasting. All you have to do is add a cup of milk (non-fat to keep the calories lower), put it in the blender and whrrrrrrr. In no time you have 2 smoothies at less than HALF of the price of my local smoothie store.
Plus the Yoplait Smoothies come in a variety of flavors
  • Strawberry Banana (my fave)
  • Blueberry Pomegranate
  • Strawberry Mango Pineapple
  • Triple Berry
You'll be surprised as soon as you open the bag to find - frozen fruit and frozen chunks of yogurt.
Simply put one cup of milk in your blender.
Add the contents of the Yoplait Smoothie bag.
Blend
and Enjoy
The result was a smoothie that was the consistency that I like (nice and thick) and a flavor that tasted of fresh fruit. No more running to the smoothie store for me, now I'll just pick up a few of these packages each time I go to the grocery store.
Want to try them yourself? You can print up a $1.00 off coupon on the Yoplait Smoothie facebook page.
I received product from Yoplait, and the 3-speed KitchenAid® blender was given to me by KitchenAid® in order to facilitate this review.
Why am I overpacking?
As a blogger who travels frequently, both on press trips as well as my own gallivanting, I thought that I had perfected the art of packing light. If I'll be visiting a place for four days or less, a carry-on usually suffices. If I'm staying a week, I generally go for a single checked bag (and there's always enough room for me to bring home all of the goodies that I buy at my destination).
Then why am I OVERPACKING for this weekend in Duluth? I'm leaving on Friday morning (tomorrow) and will be returning on Sunday. Realistically, I should need 2 changes of clothes at the MOST (jeans can be worn on the return trip) so really one pair of pants, 2 shirts, something to sleep in and unmentionables should be all that I'll need.
Well...I'll be traveling from South Florida to the freezing cold weather in Duluth, MN to witness the Vaseline Dry Skin Patrol take part in the Beargrease Dog Sled Marathon. I'm guessing that means 4 or 5 hours out in the cold weather. Mind you, I had no appropriate clothes (thanks to Broad "A" from The Review Broads for sending some great warm clothes) and it has been a long time since I've seen weather less than 60 degrees.
I figure that I'm going to look like a tourist...I'll be bundled up like the Michelin Man. So, for the FIRST TIME in many years...I'm okay with over packing. Considering the fact that I'll be getting to learn how Vaseline Intensive Rescue can keep my skin soft even in EXTREME conditions, and get to watch those amazing mushers with blue-eyed huskies pulling their sleds, I'd say it's worth it.
I was contemplating today what these bloggers who've put themselves into extreme conditions (the Philadelphia marathon, skiing at the Aspen Winternational, the polar bear plunge at Coney Island, and now they're learning to dog sled) have been through. Faced with conditions that are TOUGH on their skin, they've counted on Vaseline Intensive Rescue to keep their skin soft, when others were getting chapped skin.
I hope you come with me via twitter (follow the hashtag #dryskinpatrol) and my blog posts and photos as I join
  1. Michelle of The Adventures of a Supermom
  2. Kailani of An Island Life
  3. Kari of A Giveaway Addicted Mommy
as they mush their way through the cold Duluth weather.
To win your OWN vacation to one of the spots on the Vaseline Dry Skin Tour and to follow along go to the Vaseline Facebook page.
I'll be attending the Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon as a guest of Vaseline Intensive Rescue, however all opinions are strictly my own.
Carolina Pad for Valentine's Day
 Carolina Pad for Valentine's Day?
I know, you're totally confused...what does one of my favorite back to school, journaling and office supplies company have to do with CUPID, LOVE and GIFT GIVING?
Carolina Pad recently sent me 3 photo albums. I know, this is the digital age and a lot of you store your photos online. Just like I still enjoy writing with a pen and notebook, holding the memories in my hands and flipping through photo albums still feels "right." But I'm not talking about ME here.
As I added some of the photos of Ben when he was a baby, family get togethers, and photos of friends and family who aren't with us anymore, I thought....what a great Valentine's gift for my mother in law. In her 80's and living in a nursing home, being able to look at her family members that may no longer live close enough to see her often, the grandkids and even the GREAT grandchildren would sure beat another bathrobe or pair of pajamas.
What are you giving your grandmother or parents? A box of chocolates will last (at the most) a few days, but the memories that you hold in a photo album will last forever.
No matter what your taste, Carolina Pad has a storage solution and even a design to fit your style. My favorite is Pattern Play mini- album that holds 14 photos. It can be hung on the wall...but even better, it's small enough to take with me in my handbag or suitcase when I travel.
Whether you like to keep your photos filed in a photo box,  be able to flip open an accordian of pictures or keep a traditional photo album on your coffee table, Carolina Pad has them all, with those charming prints that we love.
We received product to facilitate this review. All opinions are our own.
Starting the #31Days mornings - Multi-Grain Cheerios
Have you been following my ups and downs on the #31Days challenge to eat healthier and get my weight under control? One of the things that I haven't talked much about is breakfast. Why? Because it's not the most exciting meal of the day...especially when you're in a rush and trying to eat healthier. One of my goals on the #31Days program is to increase the amount of fiber that I take in. My doctor has been after me to increase the amount of fiber in my diet.
Today I ate a cereal that I hadn't had it a VERY long time. As I opened my box of MultiGrain Cheerios cereal I had visions of Ben in his high-chair 25 years ago with cheerios surrounding him. We used to have our breakfast together and both enjoyed them (although mine didn't end up on the floor). Back then Cheerio's were a healthy choice for breakfast and today they're even HEALTHIER with the newest member of the Cheerio's family - MultiGrain Cheerios.
How cool is it that they've paired up with The Biggest Loser? When you purchase specially marked boxes of MultiGrain Cheerio's you'll find a code on the inside flap. Simply go to the MultiGrain Cheerios website and enter your code to start on an INCREDIBLE weight management journey. It includes a  FREE 7-Day plan from The Biggest Loser club and includes:
  • A Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator to gauge how much weight you may need to lose or gain to be considered healthy and not at risk for serious health problems
  • An exclusive 7 Day Plan that pairs daily meal plans with cardio and strength-training routines
  • 15 tasty recipes that will give your body the fuel it needs to get through the day
  • Daily workouts that couple cardio with mobility and resistance exercises to hit major muscle groups
What a great way to kick-start your New Year's Intentions and get a healthy start to the day.
Funny, but my first mouthful reminded me of the great flavor of Cheerio's that I've been missing, and with 16g of whole grains per serving (my doctor will be pleased as well).
You can also join MultiGrain Cheerios on Twitter™ during each episode of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser: Couples” Tuesday nights at 8PM EST through May 24, to connect with past contestants, share weight loss tips and discuss how to become your own Biggest Loser. Be sure to follow @MGCheerios and use the hashtag #mgcheerios to keep up with the conversation!
Check out this great kit that they sent to help get me to the gym. It's got a gym bag, water bottle, case to keep my MultiGrain Cheerio's for a snack and a big box of cereal. Did I mention that one of my readers will win one as well?
The information, prize pack and giveaway have all been provided by Cheerios through MyBlogSpark. All opinions are strictly my own.
With a house full of men - Febreze Sport
Walk into the front door of the mansion and you'll see the golf shoes on the floor and a shriveled up golf glove on the table.
I raised my family being the only female in the house. Mr. S, Ben and the dogs all provided plenty of activity and as a result I was always faced with stinky golf shoes, football gear, gym clothes and WORSE the gym bags that were full of sweaty clothes. Back then the only thing that I could do was toss the washables into the washing machine and sprinkle baking soda into the shoes.
But things have changed and I'm now armed with Febreze Sport. I have a dog and I've been using Febreze for years to get rid of the doggie smell that gathers in the fibers of carpet or the couch, but it just wasn't strong enough to take care of GYM ODORS. It is specifically formulated to find and eliminate sweat odors on shoes, apparel and gear.
What I like about Febreze Sport is that it doesn't have an overpowering smell (I use the Active Fresh Scent), yet it still takes care of those nasty sweat smells that seem to find their way into the equipment after a round of golf or a workout at the gym.
Check out TV personality and Cincinnati Bengals linebacker, Dhani Jones in the video as he humorously introduces the firehouse to new Febreze Sport.
For more info on Febreze Sport and all of the Febreze products you can Fan them on Facebook, follow them on Twitter
I received product to facilitate this review, all opinions are my own.
We're jammin' with Bob Marley and the Wailers
"One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." — Bob Marley
I know what you're thinking...SHE'S a Marley fan? No way. It's true...I am. I think my son turned me on to the Wailers many years ago, and then in the 90's when I managed a Starbucks one of my employees (Justin) put the reggae tape in as soon as he got to work (I used to have to schedule him based on his music choices, as I didn't want to hear the exact same music every single day). My days were filled with Marley, Peter Tosh, and Yellowman.
That's why I got excited to learn that there's a new box set of the Live Forever concert at The Stanley Theatre in Pittsburgh, PA back on September 23, 1980. Marley may be gone, but thankfully you can still experience him LIVE FOREVER. Recorded over thirty years ago, while Bob Marley and the Wailers were touring their "Uprising, Live Forever" album, this collection of music offers a glimpse into the legend. The Limited Edition Super Deluxe Live Forever Box Set includes 2 CD + 3 180 Gram LPs.
“Bob’s music has always conveyed a message of hope, unity and love. It has brought countless people together as it did that night 30 years ago in Pittsburgh. To hear that music today and to be able to share it with a new generation shows that Bob is as relevant today as he was 30 years ago,” says Rita Marley.
While the box set doesn't street until February 1st, you can enter to win your own copy now on both twitter and facebook from Universal Music Group.
Or you could just scroll down and win a double CD of the concert right here!
Live Forever: The Stanley Theatre, Pittsburgh PA September 23, 1980 [2 CD Deluxe Edition] (that you can win here) and  Live Forever: The Stanley Theatre, Pittsburgh, PA, September 23, 1980 [2CD / 3LP] [Super Deluxe Edition] are both available for pre-order from Amazon.com
For more information check out BobMarley.com the Bob Marley Facebook page or the Bob Marley MySpace page.
Vaseline Intensive Rescue Mission - Preparations
Last week I wrote in a panicked state about how I had NOTHING to wear except the Vaseline Intensive Rescue that was going to be my FIRST base under my warm clothes at the last stop on the Vaseline Intensive Rescue Mission Tour in Duluth, MN. I'll be witnessing the Beargrease SledDog Event on January 29th and this South Floridian of six years now has a few more layers to go over her softer skin.
Broad "A" (Ava) from The Review Broads sent me a goodie bag yesterday. Ava knows a thing or two about harsh cold weather, as she lives in Salt Lake City and hikes the canyons year round. My box contained some nice warm Patagonia long underwear, ski socks, glove liners, hats and an earband and the most luscious wool scarf I've ever seen. I had purchased a ski shell and a jacket to go under it at TJ Maxx late last week and have a polar fleece and turtleneck here at the mansion.
My final piece of the puzzle will be the boots and they are giving me the biggest headache. Did you know that it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to find insulated, waterproof (or even water resistant) boots in the Sunshine State? Well, make that SOUTH in the Sunshine State. I'm leaning toward a nice pair of Sorel boots, because I remember that they used to keep  me toasty and dry when I'd ski at Loon Mt. or Waterville Valley back when I lived in Rhode Island and spent the second half of a ski day trudging through the snow to watch Ben come flying down on his snowboard.
I HAD been worried about my skin, because even here in Florida I have to deal with dry skin and the cold makes it worse (and ITCHY), yet I HATE feeling greasy. What I've learned about the Vaseline Intensive Rescue is that it
  • TRIPLES moisture reserves instantly with no greasy or sticky residue left on the skin
  • OFFERS MORE MOISTURE than even Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair lotion
  • THREE VARIETIES are available - to satisfy LOTS of needs
  1. Intensive Rescue Repairing Moisture - repairs & softens your skin
  2. Intensive Rescue Soothing Moisture - repairs & softens skin and has a wonderful light chamomile scent
  3. Intensive Rescue Clinical Therapy - PRESCRIPTION STRENGTH moisturization available OVER THE COUNTER!
Using Vaseline Intensive Rescue in the harsh conditions at Beargrease is going to be THIS blogger's REAL TEST. If it can keep my skin soft and smooth (I get VERY itchy when my skin dries out in COLD weather), then I'll be that much happier being outside in freezing weather.  I have to come back to putting on a bathing suit and hitting the beach, so dry rough skin is NOT what I want to be wearing at the beach club this winter.
I'm inviting my readers to come along on my adventure and follow me and the three bloggers that Vaseline FOUND complaining about dry skin online, Dr. Wu (dermatologist for Everydayhealth.com) and Wendie Malick (one of my FAVORITE comedic actresses - star of Hot in Cleveland) as they (we) visit the harshest winter activities for skin. Check in on Vaseline's Dry Skin Patrol on FACEBOOK and check out the past stops on the tour as well as videos, samples, updates, and to enter the sweepstake.
I'll be attending the Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon as a guest of Vaseline Intensive Rescue, however all opinions are strictly my own.
I've been using the SWAGG app on my Droid
I've been using the SWAGG application that I downloaded free onto my EVO (which is an android based phone) and while I like the fact that I can store my gift cards on there, it's something ELSE about it that I like even more.
I've used it to add all of my gift cards that I receive either as gifts or as a result of being involved in certain blogging programs. I do LOVE the fact that I don't have to lug around all of my cards or even worse - leave them on my kitchen counter (GUILTY!) when I go out shopping. It's great to be able to just have the cashier scan your phone and use the gift cards from there...but...
Here's what I REALLY love about SWAGG. I've added ALL of my loyalty cards to the application. CVS, the grocery store, the gym, the video store and even my GODIVA card (if you don't have a Godiva loyalty card you're missing out on FREE candy every month for just stopping into a Godiva store and having them scan your card). Now I don't look like I have a ring of keys like the maintenance guy with all of those loyalty tags hanging from it and I have every single one of them with me. I used to leave some home and only take the ones I needed for a shopping trip, but there were times that I'd make an unexpected stop at a store and have left the card or tag behind and lost out on my discount, points, or whatever you get by using those cards.
Of course, being able to purchase gift cards and send them to friends is one of the other great options that SWAGG offers. Especially if you start to see those Facebook "Happy Birthday" messages to your BFF and you TOTALLY forgot to send her anything.
If you haven't started using SWAGG, what are you waiting for? It's free and can be downloaded on iPhones or Android based phones (through the Android Market), or you can sign up ONLINE.
More information as well as how to's are available  HERE on the SWAGG website.
I was selected to be a SWAGG Brand Ambassador by Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity. This is a compensated program, but all of the opinions I share are my own.
Fit From the Farm - Bob Evans
As a part of the #Lean11 challenge, I've been able to stay on my program at home, but you all know me...I NEED to go out to dinner. It's a part of my lifestyle that I'm not willing to give up (unless the sky is falling).
The Problem? Finding a menu that's weight control friendly and still offers a great selection.
The Solution: Bob Evans Fit From the Farm Menu
I have an admission to make. Before trying Bob Evans' new healthy menu, I had only been in to this restaurant ONCE before (with Lee and Paul from Coupledumb.com). Bob Evans is a whopping four miles from my front door, but I dismissed it as being one of "THOSE" places. What I learned, is that it's now one of "MY" places.
What I like: the Fit From the Farm menu spells out EXACTLY how many calories, grams of fat and sodium are in each of the dishes. Making choices based on your NEEDS very easy.
The Choices: Like the rest of Bob Evans menu - you can order BREAKFAST at any time of day. For breakfast lovers like me, this is a BONUS. With choices like Blueberry banana french toast and Veggie omelets to choose from on, it's like SPLURGING only without the added calories.
Of course my hubby HAD to order the chicken pot pie (NOT on the Fit from the Farm menu) and torture me, but I enjoyed my grilled salmon with a baked potato and broccoli for around 480 calories without feeling deprived. There was SO much food on my plate that I could only eat a little more than half of it. The hard part was pushing away Bob Evans' breads.
I received a coupon for a Fit from the Farm kit to facilitate this review, however all opinions are strictly my own.
