A little quiet time in NYC

We'll be bowling at QueenPin, hanging at The People's Party and taking fast and furious notes on the FTC Guidelines and more. But what happens when you get overwhelmed by the hustle of the city and the constant go-go-go at the conference? Where can you find a little bit of peace and quiet in the big city?

Just outside of the city (in The Bronx) is New York Botanical Garden. With special exhibitions (like The Edible Garden - that will be running during BlogHer) you'll feel like the city is an entire world away. Between the flowers and plants you'll also find peaceful waterfalls and more. A great place to clear your head and calm your spirit.

If you don't want to venture out of the city for gardens - then the Conservatory Gardens in Central Park are a beautiful 6 acre spot. Rather than just one large garden, there are three distinct areas -  the north (or French Garden), the Central (or Italian Garden) and the south (or English Garden). If you're not comfortable walking through some of the neighborhoods of Manhattan, you might want to bring a friend along or take a cab.

Not just for the religious - St. Patrick's Cathedral is a NY institution. A place that exudes peace and tranquility and if you're religious a place for prayer. A wonderful place to come to pray or just sit and reflect. Just be aware that there will be throngs of tourists coming through - so you won't be there alone.

There's nothing like a museum for quiet whispers and a little culture while you're at it. The Metropolitan Museum of Art would be the place to go on most peoples list. There is something for EVERYONE'S taste, but some will find the size a bit overwhelming. I prefer the smaller Frick Collection (which includes some of the BEST KNOWN works of art by European artists).

Of course, nothing says quiet quite like the library. The main branch of the NY Public Library is open 7 days a week and is immediately recognized by the lions flanking the entrance. Don't miss the Rose Reading Room on the 3rd floor. You'll be in awe at the mural of the sky on the ceiling - but don't gasp, because this is truly a quiet room (not even computers are allowed - as the tapping of keys would be disturbing).

Greenacre Park on 51st (between 3rd and 2nd Ave.) is one of those small pocket-parks that are peaceful respites in the city. While the park is small - the 25 ft waterfall on the rear wall, can give you that "take me away" feeling as you sit quietly with your lunch under one of the arbors from the cafés.

So, if you're feeling overwhelmed by the pace of the city - there are plenty of spots to clear your mind and just relax.

More of NY for the Newbie visiting for Blogher - or any occasion coming soon.
