BARBEQUE
I've always relied on Southern Living magazine for great recipes, even when I was a New Englander. My mom always subscribed and would cut out recipes and keep them in a file in the kitchen. So, it was no surprise when eht editors of Southern Living put together the
It's a comprehensive BBQ guide that includes recipes, beautiful photographs, where to go for authentic BBQ and competitions throughout the Barbecue Belt. Divided into REGIONS so that you get the local flavor, the editors traveled the South finding the BEST pit stops and competitions. Tips, techniques and tools of the trade are all explored, helping you to create the BEST BBQ right alongside the MASTERS of the Grill.
Oh and don't forget the RECIPES!!! From brisket to ribs and every thing in between you'll have your family asking if you can cook out EVERY night. Marinades, rubs, pastes, bastes and butters offer an array of flavors that will NEVER get boring. From drinks to desserts, everything that you need to create your meal is included. So is it going to be "Easy Barbecue Chicken" or "Dan the Man's Pork Loin Roast"? How about some "Fiesta Brisket" slow cooked until the meat melts in your mouth?
There's even going to be a Southern Living BBQ tour coming up that visits
- International BBQ Festival, Owensboro, Ky. (May 7-8)
- Great American Barbecue, Kansas City, Kan. (May 21-22)
- Safeway’s 2010 National Capital Barbecue Battle, Washington, D.C. (June 26-27)
- Exchange Club’s Ribfest, Naperville, Ill. (July 1-4)
- Jazz & Rib Fest, Columbus, Ohio (July 23-25)
- Blues, Brews and BBQ, Charlotte, N.C. (September 10-11)
This is one of those cookbooks that's going to get well-worn!!! If you love BBQ it's a must-have for outdoor cooking.
The Big Book of BBQ: Recipes and Revelations from the Barbecue Belt is available for purchase from Amazon.com for $16.47 or at you local bookseller for $24.95.
Thank you to Southern Living and Oxmoor House for providing a copy for this cookbook review and giveaway. I was in no way compensated for this post and all opinions are strictly my own.

The dirtier my BBQ gets, the more I want to use it. Seriously, the pull-over cover doesn't keep the spiders out in the summertime, either. But do I love smelling like smoked mesquite wood chips after I pull the ribs off the grill? You bet I do!
