Splenda - staying with the program

I have a lot of friends who'll give me a hard time over this. They are purists. I believe that I had a discussion with a friend just last night about my addiction to diet soda and the good vs. bad of using artificial sweeteners in my food. Frankly, if I were to go back to using sugar, I'd probably way at least 50 more lbs. than I do now, and since I'm short I have this vision of Tweedle-Dum and Tweedle-Dee (oh my, I DO love my striped shirts).

For the past five or six years, my sweetener of choice has been Splenda. Why? Because it doesn't have that NASTY after-taste that the one in the pink packet has. I've been using it for SO LONG, that I couldn't tell you if a food or drink was made with Splenda or Real Sugar. Add to the fact that my dad has diabetes (as did my grandmother) and I'm at risk, making it better for me to use that the real deal.

You'll always find those yellow packets on my counter (as a matter of fact I buy them 700 at a time at the Warehouse Store). What I NEVER did with Splenda before was BAKE. I always knew that it was the ONE artificial sweetener that could easily be used in cooking, but I hadn't tried it. I went ahead and made myself a GREAT strawberry banana smoothie using the Splenda that they sent (I was just TOO lazy to bake) and I LOVED it.

I was sent a great cookbook (and a box of Splenda) of not JUST baking, but drinks, appetizers, dinners and more where I can now use Splenda as a substitute for sugar products. Since my dad comes to visit (or I go to his house), I always feel bad when I'm serving dessert and he just looks like he'd love some. Now I have the opportunity to cook and bake and KNOW that he'll be able to enjoy dessert right along with all of us (without spiking his sugar).

PLUS - Splenda has recently teamed up with Katie Brown and is offering some of her FABULOUS new recipes on Splenda.com, like Nutty Banana Bread and Sweet Berry Smoothie. If you'd like to try some of these great recipe ideas - here's a coupon for $1.00 off.

If you're looking to stick with your diet or have been told by your doctor to limit your sugar intake, Splenda is a tasty alternative.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Splenda and received products necessary to facilitate my candid review. In addition, a donation was made in my name to the Meals on Wheel organization to thank me for taking the time to participate.

You might also be interested in Agave Nectar as it tastes amazing, is 100% pure and natural, and is safe for diabetics.

There are also a few Dangers of Splenda that you might want to know too, like the fact that it contains Chlorine in it? And it can give some major cramping and diarrhea too.

I highly recommend sticking with Agave when baking and cooking as a Sugar Substitute.
