Here are a few of MY favorite picks within a VERY short walk of the hotel.
Carnegie Deli - I NEVER go into the city without stopping in for a big bowl of Matzoh Ball Soup and a GIGANTIC sandwich (worth spending the extra money to split it, you'll never finish the whole thing). Located one block up and 1 1/2 over (at 7th and 55th). The Carnegie as well as the Stage Deli (a block away) are what the NY Deli is ALL ABOUT.
Looking for a little CULTURE? The MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) is a quick block away on 53rd. Admission is free for all visitors during Target Free Friday Nights, held every Friday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.(or $20 at other times).
A quick three block walk down to W. 50th and you'll find yourself at Radio City Music Hall. They offer Stage Door tours and maybe if you're lucky you'll get a peak at the Rockettes rehearsing!
If it's tours that you want - one of my favorites is the NBC Tour at 30 Rock (a few blocks from Radio City). You'll be AMAZED at how SMALL the Saturday Night Live set REALLY is! Who knows, you might just run into Jimmy Fallon or Meredith Vierra in the hallways!
The Ed Sullivan Theater - home of Late Night with David Letterman is a mere block and a 1/2 up from the Hilton at 53rd & Broadway. Next week I'll tell you how you might be able to score FREE tickets if they happen to be filming while you're there.
Me? I just enjoy walking down Broadway (a block or so away) down to Times Square to see what's doing (oh and visit my friend Richie, who sells tickets on the street by the TKTS booth).
Even if you're pressed for time with all of the sessions and parties going on - you should be able to take in LOTS of sights right in your own NEIGHBORHOOD.
Have fun and see you in August!
